"Azimuts" est le 3ème album de Malherbe, après La Charnière (2018) et Chevalier du Delta (2016, les disques Normal).
Puisant dans le minimalisme, l’ambient et la drone music, “Azimuts” est un disque nocturne intimiste conçu comme une variation électronique autour du thème de l’abandon, où chaque instrumental dépeint un paysage sonore onirique reflétant les états psychiques et émotionnels traversés par Malherbe au moment de leur composition (2019-2020). L’accent est porté sur le développement de textures sonores granuleuses, l'exposition de motifs mélodiques simples joués jusqu'à l'exaspération et sur la répétition rythmique obsessionnelle. Derrière leur calme apparent et la linéarité tonale générale, les 7 titres d'Azimuts révèlent un fond d'intranquilité et une profonde agitation intérieure.
Outre la volonté de s'affranchir du format chanson, le désir de Malherbe pour ce disque était de composer et d'enregistrer sur ordinateur, en utilisant uniquement un synthétiseur, des instruments virtuels et quelques plug-in modulaires. La production du disque a ensuite été confiée à Stéphane Laporte (Domotic), qui en a réalisé le mixage et a ajouté quelques touches instrumentales, qui donnent du relief et de la profondeur à l’ensemble.

"Azimuts" is the 3rd Malherbe’s album, following La Charnière (2018) and Chevalier du Delta (2016, Les Disques Normal).
Drawing on minimalism, ambient and drone music, "Azimuts" is an intimate nocturnal record conceived as an electronic variation around the theme of abandon, where each instrumental depicts a dreamlike soundscape reflecting the psychic and emotional states Malherbe was going through at the time of their composition (2019-2020). The emphasis is on the development of grainy sound textures, the exposition of simple melodic motifs played to the point of exasperation and on obsessive rhythmic repetition. Behind their apparent calm and the general tonal linearity, the 7 tracks of Azimuts reveal an intranquility substance and a deep inner agitation.
In addition to the desire to emancipate himself from the classic song format, Malherbe wanted for this record to compose and record on the computer, using only a synthesizer, virtual instruments and some modular plug-ins. The production of the record was then entrusted to Stéphane Laporte (Domotic), who mixed it and added some instrumental touches, which give relief and depth to the whole.
